Description
Balancing Act - Roseate Spoonbill. How unique is this beauty? I was stunned to find out that this Roseate Spoonbill is a North American bird. I was quite fascinated by them (there were two). I watched them for about 20 minutes.
The Roseate Spoonbill is a large wading bird with pink plumage and a distinctive spatula-like bill. It is considered one of the most striking birds found in North America.
This was an exhibit I had not seen before at the Smithsonian Nation Zoo in Washington, DC. It is called the AMAZONIA exhibit. It is an indoor rainforest with wildlife. We are invited into their habitat. What does this mean? It means they are wild and we need to be careful and respect them and their space. Along with the roseate spoonbill flying around and coming near us, there were other kinds of birds as well. Supposedly there are titi monkeys too. Didn't see monkeys. There were also some very large stingrays. A nice exhibit. A must see if you visit this zoo. Emmy Vickers,

Yes, I agree with Kirkodd... and birds are related to dinosaurs. In a way, you are photographing the past, Emmy -- great capture! F/L
