Description
Down The Hatch, (I'm sharing a life lesson)
This beautiful blue heron had just caught a spot fish and swallowed it. In this scene, the fish is in his throat heading for the belly.
This was taken at the Washingtonian Center, also known as Rio, in Gaithersburg MD. It was taken right above the rocks to the left of the Gazebo where people watch the ducks and geese.
It was amazing watching his process. He was underneath the gazebo, laying low, very focused. He was not going for the crackers and bread that people were feeding the ducks and geese, he was focused on the big prize - the fish. And then next thing you know, he gets into a flying position and swoops in for the kill. Catches the fish in his mouth and then flew over to the rocks to position the fish for swallowing. Pretty amazing to watch.
For you entrepreneurs out there and those that are goal-oriented, the life lesson here is "stay in your lane", "focus." Do not let other distractions and temptations take you off your course. That's exactly what this blue heron did. He was still in the same place 2 1/2 hours later, I was surprised as this is not the norm for a blue heron to be where it's so busy with people and tons of geese and ducks. He swooped right in between them to get his food. Amazing to watch him do this twice.
A reminder to stay focused and don't let other temptations get in the way.
This photo is great for the living room, man cave, hotels, and office. Emmy Vickers,

Amazing capture! That looks like a big fish (I think I can see it's size in the neck!) staring deep down its captor's throat here! So does the Heron really manage to gulp that whole (with such a long/skinny neck too!) thing okay? Does the fish put up a good fight, if eaten does the unlucky prey get swallowed wriggling all the way down as well?!
