Description
Hoover Dam In May, a spectacular historical landmark!
Here is a view of the breathtaking Hoover Dam (formerly known as Boulder Dam). Did you know that the Hoover Dam produces a lot of hydroelectric power? Can you believe that the dam is 1,244 feet wide, 726 feet tall, and 660 feet wide at its base? That is pretty big.
Another fun fact: water flowing out of Lake Mead, which is the entire flow of the Colorado River, enters the dam and reaches a speed of 85 miles per hour by the time it reaches the turbines. The force of the water on the turbines creates tremendous amounts of electrical power. There are a total of 17 hydroelectric generators at the dam.
I took this photo May 2013 while on a very intense 10 day business trip. Hoover Dam is on the border of Arizona and Nevada. Absolutely awe-inspiring to see and experience. A photographer's heaven. I can't wait to revisit more of the Hoover Dam with my husband. Enjoy! Emmy Vickers,

Happy New Year Dona!! Wow - thank you so much for the commentary and compliments! I have family in CA, so I was hearing about the drought first hand. Crazy weather over there! Dona, I am so honored and most grateful for your support! Yes indeed we have interests in common. I would love to learn more about you. Let's stay in touch. I see you reside in France now. I have travelled extensively throughout France with family growing up. Love it! Thanks again for your support!
