The orangutans are an interesting species. They are such a hoot to watch at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington DC. This cutie took over the hammock and was now checking out his/her audience. A lot of fun to watch.

- Orangutans are also known as primates, hominidae, and arboreal mammals.
- An orangutan's lifespan both in the wild and at zoos on the average in the mid-40's.
- Adult female orangutans in the wild weigh between 80 to 120 pounds.
- Adult male orangutans in the wild weigh between 170 to 220 pounds.
- Orangutans in zoos tend to be 50 to 100 pounds heavier due to a consistent supply of high quality food.
- Orangutans rely on facial expressions and body language to communicate with each other.
- Orangutans eat fruits, insects, and flowers.
