I took this photo at the Smithsonian National Zoo in DC. This is a maned wolf. The maned wolf is often described as "a red fox on stilts." Its long legs allows it to peer over tall grass for mice, birds, and other small animals. The wolf then leads forward over the grass to pounce on its meal.
The maned wolf's coat is a beautiful bright red brown coat as seen in this photo. This fella kept pacing around the yard and hiding behind the bushes. I had to be very patient to capture him. Ahhh, he finally stood still.
Many visitors never get a chance to see him, because he is always in hiding. In the last three visits, I have not been able to catch another glimpse of this beauty. Enjoy! Emmy Vickers,

Emmy - interesting fellow - reminds me of the Mexican Wolf, very similar and they have one here in the Texas Zoo in Victoria, TX. Tall almost coyote looking type with less fur - great shot!
