Description
A neat find. This is a statue of Orpheus, hero of music and poetry.
In 1916 the Fine Arts Commission sponsored a national competition for a statue to honor Francis Scott Key and the defenders who protected Baltimore during the War of 1812. It chose "Orpheus" by Charles Niehaus.
As you can see, it is a very stunning and powerful statue. You can find this statue at the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Baltimore, MD. It is a great place to visit. Sit overlooking the water and have a family picnic or simply just walk the grounds and learn some history.
There is a great film that they show regarding this war and how our national anthem "Star Spangled Banner" came into existence. A must see!
