Description
Spencer's Store-Elgin House Ruins At Lock 33.
The Spencer's House-Elgin House ruins, also known as the Stone House and Salty Dog's Tavern is located along the Maryland Heights Trail in Maryland. Literally this is right over the Harpers Ferry, WVA line. Officially it is located in Washington County, Maryland. Due to knee injury and surgery, I was unable to climb up the wall and rocks to go check it out. But my husband was able to, so I had to vicariously experience it through him. He took photos of the inside for me.
Stone House was built by James Elgin in 1840-1841. James used this building as both a store and a residence. It's also been known to be a bar and saloon. Stone House was passed on to a variety of people. At one time, the first floor was a museum. After decades and decades, these ruins still stand today. Emmy Vickers,
