Description
Daddy Cisco The Andean Bear.
Let me introduce you to the proud papa of two twins, Cisco the Andean Bear. Note that Andean Bears are also known as Spectacled Bears.
Andean Bears are South America's only bear species. As their name suggests, they live in the Andes mountain range from western Venezuela south to Bolivia, with sightings reported from eastern Panama and extreme northern Argentina.
This handsome fella lives at the Smithsonian National Zoo in DC. In speaking with one of the staff members, she shared that the males tend to be twice the size as the females. Cisco weighs about 300 lbs., while his partner Billie-Jean only weighs about 150 lbs.
In this scene, Cisco is watching us ongoers. He is chilling on the stone wall (which is fairly close to us), enjoying the sun and checking us all out.
Cisco, Billy-Jean, the two twin cubs are a lot of fun to watch. Be sure to stop by for a visit, you will be entertained, especially by the cubs. You will more likely see them playing in the mornings. Emmy Vickers,

I learned at the beginning of this year and was very saddened to hear Daddy Cisco, this handsome Andean (aka spectacled bear). As part of his exam, vets performed a chest ultrasound that found “large amounts of liquid in his lungs and abnormal soft-tissue masses within his chest cavity.” They performed a procedure to remove the fluid from his chest so he could breath easier. Unfortunately Cisco went into cardiac arrest and died. I am so glad I have this handsome portrait of Cisco. There was one particular time I felt as if he was looking at me and posing just for me. He came down the hill and sat on the huge rock and posed. It was as if he knew that his admirers wanted to see him up close. He was a joy to watch and photograph. He is hugely missed by not only us FONZ Members, but by the zoo staff as well.

Emmy Marie Vickers replied:
Me neither, until they came to our Zoo. They are quite fascinating and different looking. It's funny listening to people. Some folks think they are ugly while others think they are just the cutest things. I LOVE and support animals and wildlife, so you know I absolutely adore them. Thanks so much for the compliment Robert, I really appreciate your continuous support. It means a lot to me. Thanks for the vote, fave, and tweet. As always, I am honored. You are awesome!!
