This precious lion cub was taking a break from having a wonderful snack. A nice big juicy meaty bone (ox bone I think). It was so much fun to watch.
What do you think this cub is thinking now?
How I got this lion portrait shot -- this cutie was taking a break from enjoying a wonderful big juicy bone. In order to capture this scene, I must have observed and anticipated its move for a good 30+ minutes. He/she kept moving to different locations within the same vicinity, as he/she was not about to share with one of its siblings. Every time this lion cub took a break from eating, it would lick its chops. In anticipation of that happening again, I was camera-ready and observing like a hawk! :) It's not hard to observe these precious cuties for long periods of time, because the lion cubs are so entertaining when they are not chilling and sleeping. Next time you visit the Smithsonian National Zoo in DC, be sure to visit the lion exhibit. Emmy Vickers,
