I used to work in the office of the Secretary-General of the UN - his wife, Nane Annan, is a relative of Raoul Wallenberg. She and many others are still trying to find out what happened to him, through his foundation.

There is a bronze head of RW in back of Christ Church, Anglican in Montreal. I'll try to get there in April and post. There is no date of his death. A German commander remembers seeing him in A Russian detention camp after the war. A friend of mine's life was saved by RW. She was a Hungarian Jew during Hitler's last major roundup.

Wow Robert, thank you for sharing. It's always amazing to hear from others who either were effected themselves, or know someone who was. I definitely would love to see a picture of RW's head bust (?) Yeah - on the plague it has 1912-1945...but the 1945 is just of his last whereabouts. That is sad for someone that was a hero to so many. Thank you again Robert for sharing. That's what I love about being a member of FAA, its not just about trying to sell photos...it's about meeting others, sharing emotions, photos and stories. Have a truly blessed day!

Nicely done! You post, including the vignette, really works.

Thank you so much William for the compliments. My goal with the vignette, was to give the briefcase a spotlight appearance. Thanks for your support.

Artist's Description

This is one piece of a larger monumental dedication to a man by the name of Raoul Wallenberg. This is one of those off-the-beaten-path finds in Manhattan (NYC). Who was Raoul Wallenberg? A Swedish diplomat born in 1912 in Budapest, Hungary. He was remarkable because he saved the lives of countless Hungarian Jews, by placing them under the protection of the Swedish Government. Sadly, on January 17, 1945 Raoul was detained and imprisoned by the Soviet Government. So on this monument dates for his life are shown as 1912-1945. I highly recommend visiting. There are a couple of other buildings and statues to see as well. Raoul Wallenberg's memorial is located at FDR Drive North and East 47th Street. It's literally located in the middle isle of the street.

I have now posted the full monument. It is called: Raoul Wallenberg Memorial - NYC: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/raoul-wallenberg-memorial-nyc-emmy-marie-vickers.html?newartwork=true
