Description
San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge,
This seascape photo was taken Monday Feb 3, 2014 in San Francisco. This vacation was to meet my biological family for the first time. It was me, hubby, my sister Nancy, her friend Janet and Judy. Judy was our tour guide. She took us through San Francisco. The Golden Gate Bridge was a great stop. We actually walked 3/4 of the bridge...me and Janet. It was cold, but a beautiful day for picture taking.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate strait, the mile-wide, three-mile-long channel between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The structure links the U.S. city of San Francisco, on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula, to Marin County, bridging both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1 across the strait. The bridge is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco, California, and the United States. It has been declared one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
The dimensions of the bridge defied all imagination. The total length of the bridge is 8,981ft or 2,737 m. The main span between the two enormous towers is 4,200 ft or 1,280 meters long, making the Golden Gate Bridge the world's largest suspension bridge.
A record that would stand until 1964 when the Verrazano-Narrows bridge in New York was completed.
The two beautiful Art Deco towers are almost 820ft or 250 meters tall, of which more than 20 meters is below the sea level. The road, six lanes and 90 ft / 27m wide is an amazing 220 ft or 67 meters above the water level. It is supported by enormous cables, anchored in hundreds of bars locked into concrete blocks with a pulling power of 25 million kg. The two cables have a total length of 2,332 meters and a diameter of 90 cm. They are woven from 27,572 threads of steel with a total length that equals three times the earth's circumference. Enjoy! Emmy Marie Vickers,

What a great image of one of the greatest bridges in the world!. Every time I visit S.F. I go to a different vantage point attempting to get the best shot possible. This is one of the best I have seen. Also, you were very lucky with the weather - so often the bridge is fogged in or the sky is cloudy. Towers are in the sun, water is calm. Great job.

Thank you so much Richard for stopping and sharing your comments. Wow, thanks so much for such high praise, I am honored coming from you, an amazing photographer. It was an amazing sunny yet very windy day which allowed me to get a not-so-common capture of this iconic and beautiful bridge. So glad we connected, look forward to talking to you again soon. Thanks again!

Emmy you have some stunning photogaph. When I was in San Francisco and went to the Golden Bridge I couldn't see it for fog. I was blowing quite a strong wind and it was cold. I had to go and buy a sweater. A wonderful photograph and not any fog in sight........L/..Fav.........Sandy
