Description
Singing My Heart Out,
Black-tailed prairie dogs are fun to watch. This cutie was chowing on fresh vegetables. This scene made me laugh because it appears as if he is truly singing his heart out.
You can find these prairie dogs at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington DC. During the cold and winter months this exhibit is closed, because it is too cold for them.
What do the black-tailed prairie dogs eat? Well, they are very healthy. Most of their diet consists of leafy vegetation and grasses. They have also been known to eat grasshoppers, cutworms, bugs and beetles, however, mainly the vegetables and grasses.
An interesting fact I learned is that these black-tailed prairie dogs do not need water because their primarily herbivorous diet provides all of the moisture content they need. Be sure to stop by this exhibit when visiting the National Zoo in DC. Emmy Vickers,
