Description
This Is My Good Side.
Say hello to this beautiful Roseate Spoonbill. The Spoonbill is a North American bird. This was one of two Spoonbills that live in the Amazonia Rainforest at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC. They were so fascinating to watch. One flew right next to me (landed on the railing). They are not afraid of people. However, they don't necessarily want to be touched. They will definitely give you a peck on the hand if they are not in the mood.
This is their habitat, and they are free to roam and fly about. You must treat them as if you are truly out in the wild.
The Roseate Spoonbill is a large wading bird with pink plumage and a distinctive spatula-like bill. It is considered one of the most striking birds found in North America. A must see if you choose to spend a half day or full day at this awesome National Zoo. The exhibit is called the AMAZONIA exhibit and it is behind the kids petting zoo. It is an indoor rainforest with wildlife.
Along with the roseate spoonbill flying around and coming near us, there were other kinds of birds as well. Supposedly there are monkeys too. Didn't see them on this visit. There were also several large stingrays, humongous fish, and other species. There is also a workshop room to watch videos and learn more about the wildlife on exhibit. Great exhibit for children and adults. Emmy Vickers,
