Description
Walking On The Wild Side,
large African cat,
What an awesome surprise to have been able to see one of the African lioness walking in the snow. As a matter of fact, this beautiful mother lion was heading toward the gate to go back inside, along with the other Mom, so my timing was almost perfect. It was a beautiful sunny wintry day in Washington, DC. This was taken at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC.
Did you know that zoo lions, Panthera leo, may live up into their late teens or early 20's? In the wild, a lioness may live up to 16 years, but males rarely live past the age of 12. Emmy Vickers,
