Artist's Description
Sleepy Cheetah Cub. I took this photo at the Smithsonian National Zoo on Friday afternoon (1/17/2014). It was a nice day in the high 40's. This little fella was sleepy - chilling in the sun. I was lucky enough to catch this beautiful cheetah cub before he decided to take a nap in the sun. I was actually trying to capture the zebras next to this fellas cage. The zebras were not engaging. I all of a sudden heard a rustling...I thought, that is too loud to be a squirrel or bird. Well, I peaked through the fence and bamboo trees and there was this beautiful young cheetah peering at me. He had found this nice quiet place in the sun to take a siesta. I grabbed his attention long enough to take a few close-up shots. He then laid down and fell asleep. I was finally happy, as I knew this was my special shot for the day. Enjoy! Emmy Vickers,

Emmy Vickers replied:
Thank you so much for the compliment William. The look - I caught him just in time before he laid down for a nap. This is one photograph that I am really proud of because of what I had to do in order to get it...and being aware of my surroundings (listening to the rustling sound and peaking through the trees and fence, is how I managed to catch this cub). I left very excited and happy that afternoon. Thanks for your support!

Emmy, congrats on all the features. Well-deserved! Here kitty kitty kitty. What a great up-close shot of this young cheetah. You truly grabbed its attention before he/she decided to take a nap. I love how you captured the sun shining on him. This definitely looks like a photo that would be on the cover of the Nation Geographic magazine. Love it! Added it to my favorites. L/F.
