Burnt Mills Dam - Silver Spring MD. This photo was taken on February 19, 2014 at the Burnt Mills Dam on Route 29 (Colesville Rd) in my hometown of Silver Spring, MD. This is quite the historical place, that to some, is a hidden treasure, while to many Silver Springers, it is a place to get away from a busy suburbanite town into a nice and peaceful nature environment.
While the existence of these trails is old news to the many nearby residents who regularly take advantage of them, there is a fair amount of Silver Springers who have driven by the trails' entrances countless times without being aware of their presence. This was me and my husband for years. We finally just discovered this gem last year.
The best way to access the trails, which run both north towards Wheaton and south into PG County, is via the parking lot at the Burnt Mills Dam where Colesville Rd. becomes Columbia Pike (roughly across from the the Trader Joe's).
