Mei Xiang and Bao Bao in celebration of Bao Bao's first birthday.
To mark this amazing and historical special occasion, the zoo nutritionists made a tiered birthday cake out of all of Bao Bao's favorite foods. Very cool and creative; each tier was made from frozen diluted apple juice and dyed different shades of pink using beet juice. In each tier were slices of pears and apples which are Bao Bao's favorite fruits.
In addition, Bao Bao's cake was decorated with flowers made from carrots and sweet potatoes. The large number "1," that was on top of this phenomenal cake, was also made from diluted apple juice. Bao Bao was certainly in panda heaven! A lot of fun to watch. Emmy Vickers,
