Description
Historic German Bank Barn - Maryland. I came across this gem as I was driving around in Montgomery County Maryland looking for something new to learn about and photograph. It was a beautiful hot Wednesday afternoon. I ended up at the Agricultural History Farm Park located at 18400 Muncaster Rd in Derwood, Maryland.
As I drove down the road, straight ahead and to the right stood a beautiful bright red bank barn high up on a green grassy hilltop, looking so scenic and picturesque, I just had to go and explore.
This beautiful huge historical German bank barn is the Agricultural History Farm Park's original barn. Constructed in 1895, this bank barn is typical of barns found in Montgomery County Maryland at the turn of the century. The barn was the most valuable asset on the farm. The dairy cattle were milked and draft animals were housed in the basement. Hay was stored and grain threshed on the barn's main floor. The barn is open year-round. Currently you will find goats, pigs, chickens. Other cattle can be found during special events held throughout the year. I enjoyed time with goats and enjoying the beautiful and peaceful scenery.
