Description
Serenity at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge,
Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is located in Cambridge, Maryland. It is a fun place to visit. This wildlife refuge is home to a tremendous amount of plants, birds, and animals. The three major habitats for this wildlife are marsh, forest, and shallow water.
What I found interesting is that this refuge contains one-third of Maryland's tidal wetlands, which makes it an ecologically important area within the beautiful state of Maryland.
I also learned that Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge has been designated as an Internationally Important Bird Area.
Unfortunately for me and my two photography buddies, there was not much to see in terms of wildlife. We did see a bald eagle fly above us and rest high in a tree. We also saw several egrets and a couple of blue heron, but that was about it. While in the forest, there was no sounds of birds, no squirrels or any kind of life other than the trees and mushrooms. It was a fun trip and we will be back during migrating season. Emmy Vickers,
