Description
Virginia State Capitol Richmond1,
Richmond VA,
I love the architecture of this state capitol. Hubby and I visited this state capitol in 2019 on the weekend. It was closed, however, there are several things to see on the grounds. This is my favorite view. It reminds me of the White House in Washington, DC.
A Few Interesting Facts About Richmond and the Virginia State Capitol That I Learned:
(a) Did you know Richmond was not the first capitol of the Confederacy? It's the state's third capitol city. The first was Jamestown; second was Williamsburg; and the third and current is Richmond.
(b) Richmond, VA was founded by William Byrd II back in 1704 and named after its sister city Richmond, London (in the UK). I never knew this. Did you?
(c) Richmond's population skyrocketed during the Civil War beginning with a population of 38,000 in 1860. The influx of soldiers, politicians and office seekers during the war pushed Richmond to a city of 100,000 by the end of the conflict.
There is so much history to learn and so much to see in Richmond, VA. When visiting Richmond, be sure to take time to visit the state capitol building and grounds. Emmy Vickers,

Beautiful capture of this beautiful capitol. I only live about 25 miles from there but have only passed by it in a bus tour!
