Description
Let me introduce you to Bonnie The Orangutan. She lives at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC. She is looking at all her admirers in this scene. She just finished climbing the O Line.
Bonnie was born in 1976 at the Rio Grande Zoo. She arrived at the National Zoo in 1980, soon after the Great Ape House was built. She has had one offspring who's name is Kiko. Bonnie is an incredible and very intelligent orangutan; she consistently observes the other orangutans around her as well as the zoo keepers and her environment.
Fun fact is Bonnie taught herself how to whistle without any human training/coaching. She spontaneously was listening to one of the caretakers whistling and began to mimmick that sound. In 2008 she made the news because of this special talent. The reason this was newsworthy is because whistling is not in the repertoire for orangutan's to learn.
Bonnie likes to travel the O Line. What makes her different from the other orangutans is that she likes to stop at one of the towers to observe the visitors watching her. She will also sit on top of the lines, walk on top of the lines, as well as swing. She is quite entertaining.
