Description
With the Washington Monument in the background, this is the U.S. National World War II Memorial located on the National Mall in downtown Washington, D.C. It stands between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. This is a very powerful national memorial dedicated to Americans who served in the armed forces AND as civilians during World War II. It was this war that brought the United States out of the Great Depression, and the nation emerged as a world power. This Memorial is a reminder of the sacrifice, unity and service of a unique generation of Americans. They arose to eventual victory and the country transformed itself into a new age."
This World War II Memorial consists of 56 pillars and a pair of small triumphal arches surrounding a plaza and fountain. The fountain is off during the winter seasons.
I remember the announcement of opening...it first became open to the public on April 29, 2004. This World War II monument was dedicated by President George W. Bush on May 29, 2004, two days before Memorial Day. As of 2009, more than 4.4 million people visit the memorial each year.
It is an honor to have taken this photo in memory of our heroes and their families. Please take a silent moment of thanks and praise to the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S. and the more than 400,000 who died, and all who supported the war effort from home.

I see the scaffolding is almost gone from the monument, that's good and how you placed it inside this well framed image is very clever!
