Can You See Me Now. This gorgeous green creature is a Meller's Chameleon, also known as trioceros melleri. Turning different shades to blend in with its environment, as you can see here, it was a beautiful bright green. Though it was very bright green, many folks could not see it right away because it did actually blend in with the green leaves that surrounded it. It almost looked like a large green leaf.
Meller's Chameleon exhibit can be found at The Maryland Zoo In Baltimore along the African Journey boardwalk. There were several chameleons; some harder to see than others.
Meller's Chameleons are native to the east African savannas of Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania, found in bushland trees and tropical grasslands. They can grow to be almost two feet long, and have a crest that starts at the back of their head and joins up with a small horn on the snout, giving them the nickname Giant one-horned chameleon.
