I just visited this amazing church on Thursday (10/08/2014). This is The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as the Baltimore Basilica or the Basilica of the Assumption. This historical basilica was the first Roman Catholic cathedral built in the United States and is the oldest cathedral in the U.S.
The Baltimore Basilica's attractive neoclassical design adheres to the plans of architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe, who is credited as being the "Father of American Architecture," and thanks to a two-year, multi-million dollar renovation, the interior has been restored to its original glory.
In addition, The Baltimore Basilica was among the first major religious buildings constructed in the nation after the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. As a co-cathedral, it is one of the seats of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore in Baltimore, MD.
I did not have the opportunity to see the inside as it had just closed. I look forward to returning in the next couple of weeks to see the inside. This is definitely a place to visit if you are in Baltimore. The cathedral is located at 408 N Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21201, a 10-minute car ride from the Inner Harbor. Emmy Vickers,
